Elisa Costamagna

Elisa Costamagna is a fixed-term Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental, Land and Infrastructure Engineering (DIATI) at Politecnico di Torino, Italy. She is affiliated with the College of Civil and Building Engineering and contributes to the College of Architecture and Design. Her work bridges civil engineering, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience.

Her research focuses on hydraulics, urban water drainage systems, and nature-based solutions for sustainable infrastructure. She investigates green walls, graywater treatment, and urban drainage modeling under variable precipitation. Her work supports SDGs related to clean water, climate action, sustainable cities, and life on land.

Recent publications show a strong trend in sustainable water engineering, emphasizing climate-resilient urban design, nature-based wastewater treatment, and interdisciplinary sustainable construction. Her research integrates modeling, field applications, and innovative green technologies.

She supervises PhD student Fabiola Cannizzaro and leads the NBS4MOV project funded under the PNRR Mission 4. She has taught courses such as Urban Water Drainage, Design for Climate Resilience, and Challenge@PoliTo, across Civil Engineering, Architecture for Sustainability, and Engineering and Management programs.

She is actively involved in research projects like NBS4MOV – Nature-based Solutions for Mountain Villages, where she serves as Scientific Director. Her work is carried out within DIATI’s Hydraulics research group, focusing on sustainable and resilient infrastructure solutions for mountain and urban environments.
