Daniele Ganora

Daniele Ganora is Associate Professor of Hydrology and Water Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino, Department of Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering (DIATI). He is actively engaged in research and teaching, supervising PhD students, and leading multiple research projects funded by EU, national, and commercial sources. His academic roles include serving on editorial boards and participating in academic governance.

Research Interests:

• Hydrological extremes (floods, rainfall extremes)
• Water-energy nexus and large-scale desalination
• Sustainable urban drainage and wastewater treatment
• Unconventional water resources
• Flood risk management and climate change adaptation

His recent work focuses on uncertainty in hydrological modeling, flood hazard assessment in ungauged basins, and developing scalable technological solutions for water scarcity. Publications highlight a strong emphasis on data-driven approaches, international case studies (Italy, Burkina Faso, Niger), and the integration of climate resilience into infrastructure planning.

Academic Service and Grants: He is Scientific Director of EU-funded BECCA and nationally funded FRISBEE projects, and Scientific Manager of a PNRR commercial research project on hydraulic modeling. He also contributed to the certification of the "Gronda di Genova" motorway infrastructure. He supervises PhD students and teaches courses such as Flood Risk, Environmental Design, and Hydraulic Infrastructures. He serves as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Earth Science and participates in PhD program committees at both Politecnico di Torino and Università degli Studi di Catania.

Research Groups and Labs: His work is conducted within the HYDROLOGY AND HYDRAULIC CONSTRUCTIONS research area at DIATI, focusing on both theoretical and applied aspects of water systems engineering.
