Elina Bluma serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry at Riga Stradins University's Faculty of Dentistry. She has been actively contributing to dental education and research since 2015, with a particular focus on the intersection of prosthetic dentistry and periodontal health.
Dr. Bluma earned her Dental degree from the Latvian Academy of Medicine (1994-1999), followed by Dental Prosthetist Qualification from Riga Stradins University (1999-2002). She is currently pursuing doctoral studies in Medicine at Riga Stradins University since 2014 under the supervision of Associate Professor Aldis Vidžis.
Her research primarily investigates the relationship between dental prosthetics and periodontal tissue health, with particular emphasis on evaluating periodontal tissue health in patients after dental prosthetics, frequency of complications, and prevention possibilities. Her work spans aesthetic dental prosthetics on implants, soft tissue preservation, fixed and removable denture design, and the impact of crown quality on periodontal health. She has made significant contributions to understanding how CAD/CAM technologies compare to classical solutions in implant functions and aesthetics.
Dr. Bluma's publications reveal a consistent research trajectory focused on the biomechanical and aesthetic aspects of dental prosthetics, particularly examining how different prosthetic solutions affect periodontal health. Her work bridges clinical practice with academic research, emphasizing evidence-based approaches to dental prosthetics.
As an educator, Dr. Bluma teaches integrated treatment planning and preclinical dental prosthetics courses, providing instruction to students across multiple study years. She has supervised student research projects, including Malte Hornbostel's work on modern crown and veneer manufacturing techniques using CAD/CAM and 3D printing technologies.
Dr. Bluma maintains active participation in professional development through conferences and seminars, including the European Prosthodontic Association Annual Conference, European Congress of Periodontology, and various Latvian Medical Association events.
