Elin Skurtveit is an Associate Professor II (20%) at the Department of Geosciences, University of Oslo and a full-time technical expert in Energy Geomechanics and Geophysics at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI). She has held this dual position since 2018 and 2010 respectively.
- Academic background in structural geology and geomechanics
- Key focus: Subsurface CO2 storage safety and fault stability
- Experience at Stanford University's Zoback Stress and Crustal Mechanics Group
Her research integrates:
- Mechanical testing (Triax, Ring Shear, Direct Shear)
- CO2 exposure experiments on reservoir rocks
- Clay smear and shear band formation analysis
- Fluid flow characterization in fault zones
