Elif Neyzi

Elif Neyzi serves as the inaugural BIAA-Bilkent Joint Research Fellow (2024-25) at Bilkent University, specializing in Byzantine studies with a focus on urban and social history. She holds a PhD in Classics from the University of Edinburgh, where her dissertation examined monastic institutions in Late Byzantine Constantinople.

Her research spans:

• Urban topography and social transformations in Byzantine Constantinople (1204–1453)
• Social history of monasticism in Late Byzantium
• Cultural exchange patterns across the late medieval Mediterranean
• Reception Studies, particularly Byzantine women's portrayal in comparative literature

She actively bridges academia and public engagement as scientific adviser for Istanbul's Pera Museum exhibition 'Byzantium in Popular Culture'.

Currently finalizing her monograph 'Byzantine Monasteries of Constantinople: Historical Transformation of an Urban Structure in the Late Middle Ages (1204–1453)', she will also produce a podcast series exploring Byzantine heritage reception in Türkiye. Her recognition includes:

This fellowship supports her scholarly work on Constantinople's monastic urban landscape and cultural legacy dissemination through digital media.
