Eli P. Bernstein is a Stipendiary Lecturer in History at the University of Oxford, specializing in early modern European cultural and intellectual history. His research examines the concept of 'judgment' in Renaissance rhetoric and its influence on early modern French writing, including the works of Jean Bodin, Étienne Pasquier, and Michel de Montaigne. He contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in British and European History (1500-1700), historiography, and political thought.

His research explores how humanist pedagogical ideals shaped early modern intellectual practices, particularly in the context of the Renaissance and Reformation. Current projects include co-editing a volume on institutional frameworks for intellectual history and founding the Oxford Centre for Intellectual History.
