Eleni Tracada is a Senior Lecturer in the Built Environment at the University of Derby's College of Science and Engineering, where she leads the Built Environment Research Group. Her research focuses on integrating biophilic principles, sustainable design, and thermodynamic models into urban and architectural practices. Key areas include the Biophilic Healing Index (BHI) as a tool for inclusive urban design, AI-driven sustainable architecture solutions, and community-centered revitalization strategies.
Her work bridges ecological principles with human behavior, addressing challenges such as aging populations, water resource management, and inclusive urban planning. Notable contributions include studies on biophilic urbanism, historical watercourse restoration, and the application of constructal law in city design. She has published extensively in journals like Frontiers in Built Environment and UPLanD, and her research has been presented at international conferences including the International Academic Forum (IAFOR) and Renewbuild.
Tracada collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on projects like the Normanton Peartree urban revitalization and investigates the intersection of architecture with socio-cultural contexts, such as fascist-era Italian urbanism. Her work emphasizes participatory methods and evidence-based design frameworks to enhance health, well-being, and environmental sustainability in urban spaces.
