Dr. Eleni Beli is a Lecturer at Queen's University Belfast's Wellcome Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine. Her research program investigates how circadian rhythm disruption contributes to diabetic retinopathy progression. With extensive expertise in retinal pathobiology, she examines microbiome rhythms, immune cell trafficking, and gene expression patterns in diabetic models, identifying intermittent fasting as a protective intervention.
Awarded the JDRF Advanced Postdoctoral Fellowship and American Diabetes Association Young Investigator Award, her current work focuses on vascular clock disruption and microglia rhythms in diabetic eye disease. Dr. Beli actively communicates science through public lectures, festival exhibitions, and serves on chronobiology committees.
