Kevin Harkin

Kevin Harkin is a Research Fellow at the Wellcome Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine within Queen's University Belfast's School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences. His research focuses on retinal neurodegeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and neuroprotective therapies.

Harkin investigates molecular mechanisms underlying retinal diseases including diabetic retinopathy and malarial retinopathy. His work examines neuroinflammatory pathways and develops preclinical models for therapeutic testing. Recent studies explore IL-33 signaling in Müller cell-mediated inflammation and wedelolactone as a neuroprotective agent.

His publications contribute to understanding retinal degeneration mechanisms and developing translational approaches for ocular diseases. Collaborative research integrates clinical perspectives with experimental models to advance therapeutic development.
