Elena Obukhova is an Associate Professor of Strategy and Organization at McGill University's Desautels Faculty of Management. Her research focuses on inequality in hiring, networking, referrals, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Chicago, an MSc in Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences from Northwestern University, and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Florida.
Her work has been published in top journals like Management Science, Journal of International Business Studies, and American Journal of Sociology. She is a recipient of grants such as SSHRC Insight Development Grants and the Fulbright-Hays Fellowship. Her research has been featured in Forbes, Huffington Post, and Canadian HR Reporter.
Obukhova teaches International Business across BCom, MBA, and Executive Education programs. She co-directs the 'Global Mindsets' module in the McGill-HEC EMBA program and has pioneered innovative teaching modules like 'NAFTA & Fake News.' She is fluent in Mandarin and has conducted China-focused research since 1995.
Her research awards include Honorable Mentions from the ASA Culture Section and ASAC Gender & Diversity Division. She serves on the editorial board of Organization Science and previously taught at MIT Sloan School of Management.
