Elena Ivleva, M.D., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern Medical Center, specializing in neurobiological mechanisms of schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders. She serves as the Communities Foundation Chair in Psychiatry and Director of the Early Psychosis Clinical and Research Program. Her research focuses on developing in vivo biomarkers using neuroimaging and cognitive measures.
Dr. Ivleva earned her M.D. and Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Voronezh State Medical Academy, followed by psychiatry residency and postdoctoral work at UT Southwestern. She is a physician-scientist certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with over 50 academic publications and contributions to major textbooks like Kaplan & Sadock’s Comprehensive Textbook of Psychiatry.
Her research investigates psychosis biotypes through neuroimaging and genetic analysis, with grants from NIMH and the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation. Key areas include cognitive dysfunction in psychosis, structural brain alterations, and anticholinergic medication impacts. Dr. Ivleva leads the HOPE Program for Early Psychosis and collaborates with the Schizophrenia International Research Society.
Awards include recognition from the American Psychiatric Association and Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Her work bridges clinical practice with translational neuroscience, emphasizing biomarker-driven diagnostics and treatment targeting.
