Dr. Elena Dawkins is a Surrey Future Fellow at the Institute for Sustainability, University of Surrey, with a focus on sustainable consumption and production systems. Her academic career began at the Stockholm Environment Institute (2007-2023) and includes a PhD in Planning and Decision Analysis from KTH Royal Institute of Technology (2019). She specializes in carbon footprint analysis, policy design for low-carbon transitions, and the governance of sustainable consumption at local and national levels. Her research bridges environmental science, policy analysis, and behavioral economics to address climate change and equity challenges.
Key research interests include municipal policy interventions, geospatial carbon footprint mapping, and the equity implications of low-carbon transitions. She has contributed to frameworks like the PRINCE project, developing consumption-based environmental indicators. Her work emphasizes collaboration between governments, NGOs, and businesses to achieve sustainability goals aligned with the Paris Agreement and SDGs.
Elena’s recent projects analyze Sweden’s consumption-based emissions, municipal governance strategies, and the risks of unequal climate policy outcomes.
