Dr. Elena Berg is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Environmental Science at the American University of Paris (AUP), where she has been teaching and conducting research for over 10 years. With a PhD in animal behavior, she brings expertise in evolutionary biology and environmental science to her academic work.
Her research interests span evolutionary biology, animal behavior, climate change impacts, and water science. Dr. Berg's work integrates field research methodologies developed through years of international study (including work with green monkeys in Barbados, birds in Israel, Northern Mexico, and Australia, and white-throated magpies in Costa Rica) with contemporary laboratory approaches.
Dr. Berg's recent publications reflect her dual research focus on climate change impacts on beetle reproduction and water science. Her work shows strong interdisciplinary connections between biological systems and environmental challenges, with particular attention to how organisms adapt to changing conditions.

As an educator, Dr. Berg emphasizes hands-on research experience, working closely with students like Shannon Monahan on the Beetle Kinship Project. She believes in sharing the complete research process with students, from tedious data collection to final publication. Her water tasting research, conducted in collaboration with economists, demonstrates her ability to bridge scientific inquiry with practical applications.
Dr. Berg also serves as an environmental science liaison within the premium water industry, bringing scientific perspectives to issues of sustainability and watershed protection while maintaining her critical scientific perspective on industry practices.
