Elena Barabantseva is a Senior Lecturer in Politics at the University of Manchester, specializing in global politics with a focus on China. She holds a PhD from the University of Manchester and has been affiliated with the institution since 2000. Her research explores borders, identity, migration, and citizenship in China, blending poststructuralist IR theory, anthropology, and feminist studies. She coordinates the 'Borders of Migration' network and leads the 'Immigration and the Transformation of Chinese Society' project (2015-2019). Key roles include editorial board membership at Asian Ethnicity and participation in UKRI's 'Global Shifting Polarities' initiative.
