Chengzhi Zhang

Chengzhi Zhang is a doctoral research student and seminar tutor at the Department of Politics, University of Manchester. He is affiliated with the Critical Global Politics (CGP) research cluster and the Manchester China Institute (MCI), where he serves as a postgraduate research affiliate and leading convenor of the Postgraduate Researcher Workshop. His academic supervisors are Dr. Elena Barabantseva and Prof. Bridget Byrne.

Chengzhi’s research explores the lived experiences and identity formation of second-generation immigrants in China, focusing on themes of Chineseness, national identity, and transnationalism. His work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goal for Quality Education and intersects with broader migration studies.

Research Output includes contributions to the Handbook on Migration to China (2025), analyzing marriage migration through historical and contemporary lenses. His work bridges political science, sociology, and diaspora studies.
