Eleanor Shoreman Ouimet is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Connecticut (UConn). Her work focuses on human-environment interactions, environmental justice, disaster preparedness, and climate change. She holds a Ph.D. from Boston University (2009).
Her research emphasizes community-based conservation, interdisciplinary disaster science (via the DISASTER Research Team), and racial microaggressions (via UConn’s Racial Microaggressions Research Team). She teaches courses such as ANTH 5317 (Environmental Anthropology) and ANTH 1010E (Global Climate Change and Human Society).
Key research interests include environmental ethics, energy equity, and the integration of social sciences with natural sciences/engineering. Notable affiliations include the UConn CLEAN EARTH Lab and the Sustainable Global Cities Affiliate program. Awards include the 2023 UCONN Environmental Leadership Award and CETL Teaching Innovation Award.
Her published works span environmental anthropology methodologies, climate justice pedagogy, and collaborative conservation strategies. Recent projects address FOGS (fats, oils, grease) management in Hartford and food revitalization in Indigenous communities.
