Clare Shelton

Dr. Clare Shelton is a Lecturer in Environmental & Global Development at the University of East Anglia's School of Global Development, with affiliations to the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. Holding degrees in anthropology (BA), environmental science (MSc) and international development (PhD), her research examines natural resource management in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), risk perception of environmental hazards, and disaster responses in coastal communities.

Her core research interests include:

• Vulnerability assessment in Caribbean fisheries
• Gender-disaggregated approaches to agricultural systems
• Well-being centered disaster recovery frameworks
• Plural values in conservation-development interventions

Dr. Shelton's publications demonstrate consistent focus on justice-centered approaches to climate adaptation, with recent work analyzing disaster risk reduction in Dominica and Antigua. Her field experience spans Fiji, Vanuatu, American Samoa, Samoa, Dominica and the USA.

She leads FAO-funded projects on small-scale fisheries adaptation and contributes to policy-relevant research on transformative climate responses. Her methodological expertise combines qualitative and quantitative approaches to vulnerability assessment.
