Eleanor R. Townsley is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Sociology and Director of the Nexus Program at Mount Holyoke College. She holds affiliations with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, the Department of Gender Studies, and the Entrepreneurship, Organizations, and Society Committee. Her work bridges cultural sociology, social theory, and the sociology of gender.

Townsley’s publications in journals like American Journal of Sociology and Gender and Society highlight her interdisciplinary approach. She co-authored Making Capitalism without Capitalists and contributed to the Handbook of Economic Sociology. Her recent projects include studies on media intellectuals and cultural diffusion.
