Dr Eleanor Jupp is a Reader in Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Kent's School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research. Her research focuses on social policy, urban geography, and disadvantaged communities, with an emphasis on emotions, embodiment, and care. She holds a BA in English and French from the University of Oxford, an MA in Anthropology and Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths College, and a PhD in Human Geography from The Open University. Her work bridges academia and practice, collaborating with voluntary sectors and policy advisors.
Research interests include austerity impacts on communities, climate crisis responses, health inequalities, and childhood welfare systems. Key publications include Care, Crisis and Activism (2023) and co-edited volumes on affective governance and home policy. She leads projects like the Medway Creative Place Partnership and studies environmental justice in Kent.
Teaching includes modules on social policy, qualitative research, and urban sociology. Supervised PhD topics range from LGBTQ geographies to rural environmental activism. Awards include the Herbert Gottweis Prize (2023) and Royal Geographical Society Fellowship. Current grants explore sharing economies, climate justice, and participatory health research.
