Eldar Shafir is the Class of 1987 Professor of Behavioral Science and Public Policy at Princeton University, with joint appointments as Professor of Psychology and Public Affairs. He serves as Inaugural Director of Princeton’s Kahneman-Treisman Center for Behavioral Science and Public Policy.
- Education: B.A. from Brown University, Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology
- Current roles: Faculty member since 1989, Past President of the Society for Judgment and Decision Making
- Policy engagement: Former Vice-Chair of WEF’s Global Agenda Council on Behavior, advisor in Obama’s Presidential Advisory Council on Financial Capability
His research bridges cognitive science and public policy, focusing on decision-making in contexts of poverty and behavioral economics. Recent work examines how scarcity affects cognitive resources and judgment, building on his acclaimed book Scarcity: Why Having Too Little Means So Much (2013) co-authored with Sendhil Mullainathan.
