Elana Schlenker is a Visiting Critic (summer 2025) in the Department of Art at the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP), Cornell University. Since 2016, she has served as a lecturer in the Image Text Ithaca low-residency M.F.A. program, contributing to interdisciplinary art and design education.
Her research and creative interests span graphic design, visual communication, experimental publishing, and typography. She explores the intersections of design, text, and image in both academic and professional contexts, with a commitment to critical and socially engaged practices such as wage equity through her project Less Than 100.
Schlenker is the founder of Gratuitous Type, a magazine dedicated to contemporary graphic design, and principal of Studio Elana Schlenker, a design practice established in 2011. Her professional work includes identity design, editorial projects, and collaborations with cultural institutions and media outlets.
