Ela Klecun

Dr. Ela Klecun is an Associate Professor of Information Systems at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), within the Department of Management. Her research focuses on the intersection of information and communication technologies (ICT) with healthcare systems, digital exclusion, and sociotechnical approaches to information systems. She has held academic roles since 1999, including teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in courses like eHealth Policy, Information Systems in Business, and Design in Context. Her work explores how ICT shapes healthcare practices, policies, and professional experiences, with a particular interest in electronic health records (EHR), telehealth, and medication safety.

Dr. Klecun’s educational background includes a BSc in Computing from Guildhall University, and a Master’s and PhD in Information Systems from LSE. Her research has been funded by UK research councils, including the EPSRC and ESRC, and she has contributed to major projects such as evaluating the NHS Care Record Service and analyzing electronic prescribing systems. She has authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles in journals like the British Medical Journal (BMJ), European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS), and Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS).

Her awards include recognition for outstanding contributions to reviewing in medical informatics and information management (2018, 2017). She has served as an external examiner for multiple universities and held editorial roles, including Associate Editor for the International Journal of Digital Literacy and Digital Competence since 2009. Her research also addresses broader societal issues like digital exclusion and ICT’s role in education and adult literacy.
