Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ekrem Altuncu serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Sakarya University's Faculty of Technology. He has represented the university as a delegate for the European Thermal Spray Association (ETSA) since 2010 and conducts research at the Thermal Spray Research and Application Laboratory (SAU-TESLAB) since 2007.
He completed his PhD in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering in 2011, specializing in plasma-sprayed thermal barrier coatings. His research spans Thermal Spraying, Surface Treatments, Heat Treatments, and Material Characterization, with direct industrial applications in automotive, aviation, and die-casting sectors. Dr. Altuncu teaches undergraduate courses including Surface Treatments and Metallography, plus graduate courses on High Temperature Resistant Alloys and Medical Coatings.
His industrial consultancy covers damage analysis, process improvement, and surface solutions, supported by successful projects funded by TÜBİTAK, the Ministry of Industry, and the Ministry of Development. He serves as a referee for journals including Surface and Coatings Technology and Corrosion Science. Within SAU-TESLAB, he operates specialized facilities like the Thermal Spray Coating Laboratory and Metallography Characterization Laboratory for biomedical and industrial applications.
