Dr. Eiman Elbanhawy is a Senior Lecturer in Architecture and Technology at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the School of Architecture, Art and Design within the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on smart cities, e-mobility, urban sustainability, and HCI. She bridges academia and practice, having held postdoctoral roles at MK:Smart (The Open University) and a visiting scholar position at Penn State University's Sustainability Institute. Eiman supervises PhD students in areas like slum upgrading and UX in gaming. She actively promotes cross-disciplinary research and is a PhD supervisor committed to fostering postgraduate researchers.
Her research interests include resilient urban design, smart technologies, and the integration of IoT and space syntax in urban spaces. She explores how technology can enhance livability and inclusivity in cities. Eiman’s recent work on compact cities and post-war urban resilience will be featured at the 2025 Livable Cities Conference in Lisbon. She has published extensively on e-mobility systems, smart home technologies, and spatial analysis, emphasizing practical applications in urban contexts.
Her work on EV charging infrastructure, user behavior analysis, and ambient awareness interfaces highlights her focus on bridging technological innovation with real-world urban challenges. Eiman has collaborated on projects like the Newcastle-Gateshead EV mobility study and MK:Smart initiatives, demonstrating her commitment to impactful, community-engaged research.
