Eileen de Jong is an Assistant Professor in the Environmental Governance Group at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Faculty of Geosciences, Utrecht University. Since September 2022, she teaches in the Global Sustainability Science Bachelor and Sustainable Development Master programs, covering courses like Policy Evaluation and Design, Foundations of Social Sciences for Sustainability, and Research Strategies.
Her PhD research focuses on the institutionalization and implementation of the United Nations’ Leaving No One Behind (LNOB) principle within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Key areas include identifying enabling conditions and gaps in translating LNOB commitments into national action through case study analyses of political factors.
Her research trends emphasize institutional frameworks, policy coherence, and transformative governance for sustainability. Publications analyze the evolution from Millennium Development Goals to SDGs and operationalize LNOB at global and national levels.
