Eileen Deges Curl, Ph.D., is a Professor and Director of Nursing Research at the JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. She holds a Ph.D. in Adult Health Nursing from The University of Texas at Austin, an MSN in Community Health Nursing from the University of Colorado Health Science Center, and a BSN from Marymount College of Kansas.
Her research focuses on high-fidelity simulations in nursing education, seamless articulation for RN-to-BSN students, disaster preparedness, student retention and diversity, and the intersection of hope and aging in older adults. She has secured national and state grants for these initiatives and contributed to policy development through her work with the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
Dr. Curl has served on numerous boards and committees, including the Texas Board of Nursing Advisory Committee on Education and the Society for Modeling and Role-Modeling. Her leadership roles include President of the Texas Association of Deans and Directors of Professional Nursing Programs. She has also chaired an NCSBN subcommittee that led to two national research projects and position statements adopted by state boards nationwide.
Her teaching responsibilities include MSNC 5311: Nursing Research and practicum courses for nursing education students. She emphasizes reflective learning and the broader societal impact of nursing education. Awards include recognition for teaching and research, notably the Sigma Theta Tau International Dissertation Award.
