Ehsan Abadi is an Associate Professor in Radiology and an Assistant Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University. He is affiliated with the Pratt School of Engineering and the Department of Radiology. His research focuses on quantitative imaging, computational modeling, and medical imaging simulation, with a particular emphasis on CT imaging in cardiothoracic and musculoskeletal applications. He leads the DukeSim CT simulation platform and is co-lead in the Center for Virtual Imaging Trials.
Abadi holds a Ph.D. from Duke University (2018). His work includes developing the XCAT 3.0 digital twin library and advancing photon-counting CT technology. He teaches courses in medical physics and engineering projects.
Research interests span virtual clinical trials, radiation dose optimization, and AI-driven imaging protocols. Notable contributions include optimizing CT protocols for COPD quantification and evaluating photon-counting CT's clinical utility. His grants include NIH funding for COPD research and industry partnerships (Siemens, Canon) for CT innovation.
He has over 150 peer-reviewed publications, focusing on topics like CT harmonization, lung imaging trials, and AI bias mitigation in radiomics. Current projects include personalized digital twins for radiation therapy and longitudinal lung disease assessment using virtual trials.
