Efstathios Tapinos is a Reader (equivalent to Associate Professor) at the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation, within the Strathclyde Business School at the University of Strathclyde, where he has been since 2019. He has held leadership roles including Associate Dean (Knowledge Exchange) and Director of Knowledge Exchange, reflecting his commitment to engaged research and academic impact. He previously worked at Aston Business School and held a visiting research fellowship at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
His research centers on Strategy Process, with a focus on strategic foresight, uncertainty, scenario planning, and prospective sensemaking. He primarily employs qualitative methodologies such as interviews, case studies, and ethnographic data. His work emphasizes the practical application of strategy tools in organizational contexts, particularly in navigating turbulent environments.
The recent publications highlight a consistent trend in using scenario planning and foresight methodologies across diverse domains including fintech, 5G innovation, entrepreneurial orientation, and corporate responses to economic recession. His research integrates cognitive and organizational perspectives, particularly in how individuals and firms make sense of the future under uncertainty.
He actively collaborates across disciplines, contributing to projects in engineering, design, and financial regulation. He is co-organizing the Scenario Planning and Foresight conferences and serves on the editorial board of Futures & Foresight Science.
