Dr. Efstathios (Stathis) Giotis is a Lecturer in Virology at the School of Life Sciences, University of Essex, with an affiliation as Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Imperial College London. His research focuses on host-pathogen interactions, particularly zoonotic viruses like flaviviruses (Zika, Dengue) and coronaviruses (SARS-CoV-2, HCoV-NL63).
His work integrates transcriptomics, bioinformatics, and virology to study viral entry mechanisms, immune evasion, and cross-species transmission. He supervises PhD and MSc students in projects involving SARS-CoV-2, BatIV, and seasonal coronaviruses, while leading grants on bat conservation and antiviral strategies.
Recent publications highlight his expertise in viral immune modulation, TMPRSS2 inhibition for SARS-CoV-2 treatment, and host receptor identification for zoonotic pathogens. His collaborations span institutions in the UK, Japan, and Nigeria, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to global health challenges.
