Efimia Karakantza is a Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Philology at the University of Patras since 2022 and 2023 respectively. She has served at the University of Patras since 2007 and directs the Laboratory for the Study of Myth and Religion in Greek and Roman Antiquity while serving on the Institute of Ancient Drama's Coordinating Committee.

Her work bridges classical scholarship with contemporary cinema, theatre, and postmodern critical thought to reconstruct discourses around Athenian identity and democratic principles.

As an educator, she has supervised numerous doctoral and graduate theses while pioneering Greece's first 'Feminist Criticism and Classical Studies' course in 2014.
