Edwyna Harris is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics at Monash University. Her research focuses on economic history, property rights, and institutional development in colonial contexts. She has contributed to understanding land reform, colonial economic policies, and resource management in Australia, Micronesia, and other regions.
Notable projects include leading research on regulatory frameworks for water-sensitive cities (2012-2016) and analyzing historical water rights evolution in Victoria. She received the Economic Record Best Paper Prize 2021 for her work on South Australia’s copper mining boom. As Editor-in-Chief of the Australian Economic History Review (2016-2020), she has shaped scholarly discourse in this field.
Her research spans topics such as land settlement conflicts, colonial fiscal policies, and the economic impacts of migration. Current interests include applying cliometric methods to Australia’s economic history and exploring institutional path dependence in resource markets.
