- PhD in Financial Accounting, Monash University (2015)
- Bachelor's or equivalent in Accounting (implied by CPA and academic path)
Edwin Lim's research focuses on financial accounting, auditing, corporate governance, business strategy, and capital markets. His work explores how corporate behavior, board dynamics, and strategic decisions influence financial reporting, audit practices, and market outcomes. He investigates topics such as boardroom backscratching, carbon risk, and the readability of financial reports, often linking governance mechanisms to firm performance and investor perception.
The recent research articles (2017–2025) demonstrate a consistent focus on audit quality, corporate governance, business strategy, and environmental risk disclosure. A strong trend emerges in examining how internal corporate behaviors (e.g., boardroom dynamics, managerial ability) and external pressures (e.g., foreign investors, climate risk) affect financial reporting transparency, audit pricing, and equity capital costs. His interdisciplinary approach bridges accounting with finance, strategy, and sustainability, particularly in international and emerging market contexts.
Edwin Lim has received several prestigious recognitions for his academic contributions:
- Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) – 2021 Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning
- Deakin University Faculty of Business & Law Awards – Research & Innovation (2022)
- Deakin University Faculty of Business & Law Awards – Teaching & Learning (2022)
- Research Excellence Award, Department of Accounting, Deakin University (2018, 2019)
He actively supervises doctoral students, having completed the supervision of Furqan Shah (2025) on strategic reporting. He teaches key units including MAA261 Financial Accounting, MAA310 Accounting and Society, MPA701 Accounting, and MPA753 Professional Research and Analysis. His research is supported by competitive grants, including two projects funded by the Australian Accounting Standards Board: one on human capital risk disclosures and another on climate-related financial disclosures, indicating strong industry engagement and policy relevance.
Dr. Lim is affiliated with Deakin Business School’s research community and collaborates widely, as reflected in his multi-authored publications and grants. His research group or team focuses on empirical accounting and governance, with strong ties to policy bodies and international research networks.
