Edwin H. Kim

Dr. Edwin H. Kim is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. He serves as the Division Chief of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology, Director of the UNC Food Allergy Initiative, and Associate Program Director of the Allergy and Immunology Fellowship Training Program.

Dr. Kim's research focuses on food allergy and immunotherapy, particularly oral immunotherapy (OIT), sublingual, and epicutaneous routes. His work investigates the safety, tolerability, and mechanisms of immunotherapy. Additionally, he studies chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU) and angioedema, exploring immune modulatory treatments for refractory cases. His research is conducted through the UNC Food Allergy Initiative (UNC FAI), which collaborates with the Consortium of Food Allergy Research (CoFAR) and the Immune Tolerance Network (ITN).

As the Associate Program Director for the Allergy and Immunology Fellowship Training Program, Dr. Kim mentors fellows in clinical and research aspects of allergy and immunology. The UNC FAI, under his direction, secures research grants and conducts clinical trials to advance food allergy treatments.

Dr. Kim leads the UNC Food Allergy Initiative, a multidisciplinary team dedicated to understanding the biological basis of food allergy and developing novel immunotherapies. The initiative collaborates with national consortia to accelerate research and improve patient outcomes.
