Edward Steinfeld is a SUNY Distinguished Professor in the Department of Architecture at the University at Buffalo, School of Architecture and Planning. He has been a leader in inclusive design since the 1970s, founding the IDeA Center to advance socially sustainable communities through architecture. His work spans over five decades, focusing on accessibility standards, universal design in healthcare, transportation, and public spaces.
Education: ArchD from the University of Michigan and Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University. His research integrates anthropometric studies, human factors, and policy advocacy to create equitable environments.
Research Interests: Inclusive Design, Universal Design principles, accessibility in transportation systems, healthcare facility design, and the intersection of architecture with disability rights. Recent work examines smart city inclusivity and wheelchair securement systems in transit vehicles.
Awards include the SUNY Distinguished Professorship (2012), UB Presidential Award for Excellence (2010), and the Ron Mace Award. His mentorship has shaped countless professionals in the field.
