معرفی
Edward Selby is a Professor of Clinical Psychology at Rutgers University, leading the Emotion and Psychopathology (EmP) Lab. His expertise focuses on emotion dysregulation mechanisms underlying suicidal/self-injurious behaviors, borderline personality disorder (BPD), and eating disorders like anorexia nervosa and bulimia. He developed the Emotional Cascade Model explaining how repetitive rumination creates aversive emotional states that drive self-sabotaging behaviors. His work also includes the Positive Emotion Amplification Model for anorexia nervosa and smartphone-based interventions for mental health disorders.
Dr. Selby earned his Ph.D. from Florida State University (2011) and completed residency at Brown University. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and received prestigious awards including the NIH NRSA and ABCT's Neil S. Jacobson Award. His research integrates experimental methods, experience sampling, and dynamic systems modeling to understand psychopathology.
Key contributions include linking BPD symptoms to emotional cascades via Bayesian networks and investigating suicide risk factors among sexual minorities. The EmP Lab develops digital tools for emotion regulation, aiming to create widely accessible treatments. Current projects focus on smartphone apps targeting BPD and eating disorders, leveraging real-time ecological momentary assessment data.
