Edward Langille is a Professor of French language and literature at St Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Canada. He trained in medieval philology under Professor Jean Dufournet at Paris III. His research spans French literature, with emphases on medieval prose (crusader chronicles, Old French travel narratives), literary history, and historic translations. Since 2003, his work has focused extensively on Voltaire and his circle.
Key publications include critical editions and translations of 18th-century French texts, such as Dulaurens’ Candide seconde partie (2003), Thorel de Campigneulles Candide en Dannemarc (2007), and Fougeret de Monbron’s Le Cosmopolite (2010). Recent books are The Quotable Voltaire and Voltaire’s Workshop. Currently, he is cataloguing unpublished Voltaire correspondence.
