Edward L. Loechler

Edward L. Loechler is a Professor of Biology Education at Boston University. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of carcinogen-induced mutations and cancer, particularly studying benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) and its effects on DNA polymerases. He investigates how Y-Family DNA polymerases accurately or inaccurately bypass DNA adducts, with implications for cancer causation.

Research interests include molecular biology of mutagenesis, structural analysis of DNA polymerases, and mechanisms of environmental carcinogens. His publications explore DNA damage bypass mechanisms and protein structural elements affecting DNA replication fidelity.
