Dr Edward Jegasothy is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Public Health at the University of Sydney. He holds a PhD (2020) from the University of Sydney, specializing in environmental health with a focus on vulnerable populations in NSW. His academic background includes a Master of Biostatistics (2018) and Master of International Public Health (2013). Prior to academia, he worked on public health initiatives in Timor-Leste.
His research focuses on environmental exposures (air pollution, heatwaves), climate change impacts on health, and health policy. Current projects include assessing health risks from bushfire smoke and climate adaptation strategies for Aboriginal communities. He contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives like the Sydney Centre for Healthy Societies and Sydney Environment Institute.
Teaching areas include Environmental Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Climate Change and Health. He has secured grants such as the Sydney Policy Lab Award (2025) for work on social policy and health inequality. Recent publications examine maternal health outcomes related to temperature and air pollution, with a focus on vulnerable groups.
Professional affiliations include the Public Health Association of Australia (NSW Branch). His work bridges environmental science, public health policy, and community resilience strategies against climate threats.
