Edward Howell is a Departmental Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Oxford. He holds degrees of MA, MPhil, and DPhil (Oxon). His research focuses on North Korean foreign policy, East Asian geopolitics, and the Korean Peninsula's international relations. He is the author of the 2023 monograph North Korea and the Global Nuclear Order and contributes regularly to media outlets like BBC World News and The Spectator. Howell is also a Korea Foundation Fellow at Chatham House, London.
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses on International Relations theory, Cold War history, and international security, as well as graduate seminars on East Asian international relations. He received the 2024 Teaching Excellence Award for his pedagogical contributions.
