Edward G. Baring is an Associate Professor of History and the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University, serving as Acting Director of the Early-Career Research Office. His work focuses on modern European intellectual history, particularly the intersection of Catholicism and Continental Philosophy. Baring holds a BA in Mathematics and History from the University of Cambridge and a PhD from Harvard University.
His research explores thinkers like Derrida and the development of Continental Philosophy, with notable publications including Converts to the Real (2019) and The Young Derrida (2011). He has also edited works on Derrida and religion. Baring was previously affiliated with Drew University before joining Princeton.
He received a Center for Digital Humanities Collaborative Research Grant and contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives at the University Center for Human Values. His academic leadership includes directing early-career research programs.
