Edward Denison is Professor of Architecture and Global Modernities at The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. He is also the Co-Director of the MA Architecture and Historic Urban Environments and a PhD Supervisor. With 25-years' experience as an independent consultant specializing in urban and cultural heritage, he combines international professional practice with teaching in London.
His research focuses on:
- Challenging canonical histories of architecture
- Decolonizing architectural historiography
- Examining architecture as an extractive process in the Anthropocene
- Advancing sustainable architectural practices
His most recent work explores architecture's role in the triple planetary crisis with a Leverhulme Trust funded project that will culminate in an international publication in 2028. His research has had significant impact, being selected as The Bartlett School of Architecture's only contribution to the Faculty's Impact Case Studies in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF).

- Asmara: Africa's Secret Modernist City (2003)
He has received the RIBA President's Medal for Research in both 2016 and 2017.
As co-founder of the global collaborative MoHoA (Modern Heritage of Africa/Modern Heritage in the Anthropocene), Denison has organized multiple workshops and international conferences, including 'Modern Heritage in the Anthropocene' at The Bartlett in 2022.
