Edward Buckley, MD serves as the Vice President for Duke-NUS Affairs and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at Duke University School of Medicine. He is the James P. and Joy Gills Professor and a renowned expert in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, with over 80 clinical and 13 research fellows trained. His leadership roles include President of AAPOS, Chair of the American Board of Ophthalmology, and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of AAPOS.
- Role in establishing Duke-NUS Medical School since 2001
- Transformed Duke’s medical curriculum (2007–2024) as Vice Dean for Education
- Authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles and eight books
Research Interests span pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus, neuro-ophthalmology, and medical education innovation. His work addresses visual development in aphakic infants, surgical outcomes for ocular and pancreatic disorders, and novel educational frameworks like the DOCENT program.
Recent Publications focus on recurrence patterns in pancreatic cancers, refractive errors in pediatric lens implantation, and curriculum development for bias-free assessments. His clinical research often involves international collaborations and long-term cohort studies.
