Edward B. Overton

Edward B. Overton is Emeritus Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences at Louisiana State University. His research focuses on environmental chemistry of petroleum hydrocarbons and pollutant detection.

Holds BS and PhD degrees from University of Alabama (1965, 1970). Former holder of the Clairborne Chair in Environmental Toxicology.

Research analyzes oil spill impacts from Deepwater Horizon to Exxon Valdez, with emphasis on chemical fingerprinting and biodegradation pathways. Recognized for science communication during the 2010 Gulf oil spill. Awards include Louisiana Communicator of the Year (2010) and LSU Distinguished Faculty (2008).
