James J. Gelsleichter is an Associate Professor of Biology at the University of North Florida, where he has worked since 2008. He teaches courses in shark biology, endocrinology, and toxicology while leading the UNF Shark Biology Program, a large, well-funded research initiative.
- Research Interests: Ecology of shark populations in northeast Florida, reproductive biology and physiology of elasmobranchs, and impacts of environmental pollutants (e.g., mercury, PAHs from oil spills) on marine species.

- JAXSPAN shark population survey (since 2009)
- Great White Shark Ecology collaboration with MA DMF
- Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill ecotoxicology studies
- Mercury accumulation in sharks and rays
