معرفی
Eduardo M. Torres is an Associate Professor at UMass Chan Medical School, affiliated with the T.H. Chan School of Medicine and the Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. He holds positions in the Molecular, Cell and Cancer Biology Department, the Program in Molecular Medicine, and interdisciplinary graduate programs. Dr. Torres earned a BS in Physics from City College of New York and a PhD in Physiology & Biophysics from Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences.
His research focuses on aneuploidy’s impact on cellular physiology, metabolism, and cancer development. Using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model, his lab investigates how aneuploidy alters proliferation, metabolism, and genomic stability. Key findings include aneuploidy’s role in promoting metabolic liabilities (e.g., sphingolipid synthesis) and its evolutionary adaptations in cancer cells.
Recent publications emphasize metabolic consequences of aneuploidy, including sphingolipid detoxification pathways and fitness improvements via gene mutations. His work highlights potential avenues for anti-cancer therapies targeting aneuploidy-associated vulnerabilities.
Dr. Torres oversees postdoctoral and graduate training programs, emphasizing collaborative research in cancer biology and cellular metabolism. His lab actively recruits motivated candidates with expertise in genetics, biochemistry, or cell biology.
