Edoardo Gorini serves as Full Professor in Fundamental Interactions Experimental Physics (02/A1) at the Department of Mathematics and Physics "Ennio De Giorgi" at University of Salento in Lecce, Italy since 2022. Previously, he held positions as Associate Professor (2001-2021) and Assistant Professor (1992-1999) at the same institution. He maintains a dual affiliation with the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), where he has served as Research Associate since 1989.
Professor Gorini specializes in Experimental Elementary Particle Physics with Accelerator Machines, with particular expertise in the ATLAS experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. His research encompasses Gas Particle Detectors (RPC, MicroMeGas), Statistical Data Analysis, and programming in C++ and Python. He has participated in five major High Energy Physics experiments across international laboratories including NA10, CHARM II, ATLAS at CERN, E771 at Fermilab, and KLOE at INFN Frascati National Laboratories.
During his distinguished career, he served as Local Manager of the ATLAS Experiment at the LHC accelerator at CERN from 2007 to 2019 and was an elected member of the Department Board from 2020 to 2024. His publication record includes approximately 1,100 papers in international refereed journals, with an Hirsch index of 120 as of January 2022.
