Edgardo Salinas is a full-time Professor of Music History at The Juilliard School, teaching in the College and Graduate Studies divisions. He holds a Ph.D. in Historical Musicology from Columbia University (2011) and was a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at Columbia's Society of Fellows in the Humanities. His research focuses on Beethoven’s music, early Romantic aesthetics, music and media technology, John Cage’s indeterminacy, and the political history of classical music in South America. He is completing a book reinterpreting Beethoven’s piano sonatas as pivotal moments in musical media history. His publications include analyses of Beethoven’s 'Tempest' sonata, Liberace’s reinterpretations of Beethoven, and Latin American experimental music perspectives.

Research Interests: His work bridges classical music history with media studies, exploring how technological and cultural shifts reshape musical expression. Current projects emphasize Beethoven’s innovations and their broader cultural implications, alongside the intersection of music and politics in Latin America.
