Eddie Luzik, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical & Biomedical Engineering at the University of New Haven (Tagliatela College of Engineering). He joined the institution in 2000 and specializes in teaching Organic Chemistry, Synthetic Chemistry, and related laboratory courses. His research focuses on Green Chemistry, fluorinated molecules, polycyclic aromatics, and biofuel synthesis, emphasizing environmentally friendly processes and instrumentation-driven methodologies.
Education: B.S. in Science (Pennsylvania State University), Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry (Bryn Mawr College), followed by postdoctoral research at the University of Toledo and teaching at Haverford College. He also conducted sabbatical research at Yale University.
Luzik oversees the department’s instrumentation (GCs, HPLCs, GC/MS, UV/Vis, XRD) and redesigned the Organic Lab into a state-of-the-art facility. His work integrates Quality Assessment and Good Laboratory Practices into student training. Current projects include developing ozone-friendly solvents, catalyst screening, and biofuel production for educational lab curricula. He is a member of the American Chemical Society (Organic/Fluorine Chemistry Divisions), Sigma Xi, and the New Haven Mineral Club.
