Dr. Edda Willamowski is a social and cultural anthropologist affiliated with the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology at Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, part of the Philosophical Faculty I. She focuses on Psychological Anthropology, Migration Studies, and Phenomenological Anthropology, with a thematic emphasis on emotion, affect, silence, and human-environment relationships. Since 2024, she has conducted research and taught under Prof. Dr. Anita von Poser’s chair in Mobility Studies.
Her research explores transnational lifeworlds between Vietnam, Germany, and the USA, investigating migration’s impact on mental health, spatial perception, and social participation. Notably, she examined Vietnamese-German communities and the long-term effects of war and mobility in aging populations. She co-leads the Psychological Anthropology working group of the German Anthropological Association since 2019.
Her interdisciplinary work bridges social work, health, and education sectors, analyzing migration phenomena through applied ethnography. She previously contributed to the Collaborative Research Center "Affective Societies" at Freie Universität Berlin, studying mobility dynamics in post-conflict societies.
