Giang Thierbach is a Researcher at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology within the Department of Political and Social Sciences at Freie Universität Berlin. She is affiliated with the Collaborative Research Center 1171 'Affective Societies' (Project A01) until February 2025, focusing on emotional dynamics in Vietnamese migratory contexts.
- Education: MA in Literature (2008) and Diploma in Education/Literature (2005), both from the University of Hue, Vietnam.
- Employment History: Research Associate (2020–present) in 'Emotional Formations in Vietnamese Berlin'; Social Worker (2019–2020) at Berlin's 'Menschenskinder' center; Lecturer (2009–2012) at the University of Applied Sciences for Education, Hue.
Research Interests: Her work explores migration, intergenerational family roles (particularly grandparents), and social relationships within Vietnamese communities in Berlin. Her publications analyze educational practices and emotional resilience in migrant families.
Current Projects: Focus on affective formations in Vietnamese Berlin and the social/cultural diversity of childhood within diasporic contexts. Her 2020 publication (co-authored) and 2022 collaborative work on 'Attachment from a social anthropological perspective' reflect these themes.
